What a gem Sarah! And you brought me back to my childhood with that telephone chair, including an old telephone (which I very much regret not having kept ours). Simply beautiful :)
Oh, I love this! I know a couple of other people who have been similarly delighted to find a telephone chair at a secondhand shop. But you’re the first person who’s told me they grew up with one! You must have been a very classy family.
That chair and telephone are too perfect! Finding the right pieces for your space can be such a motivator for making progress, too. I recently visited a very cute small town that had turned a British telephone booth into a "wishing machine." Cute signage and decor encouraged you to step into the booth and use the receiver to make your wish. You could come up with a similar idea if you can't get the phone to work!
I love that phone table and have seen similar at the French secondhand shops near me. Reading this makes me feel like I absolutely need to go buy one now!
Love the idea of you rigging up that phone! I am the type of person who couldn’t resist posing with the receiver when I thought nobody was looking - only to be delighted when hearing WORDS coming out!
One of the reasons we picked Narni is accessibility by train. The train stops down the hill, and then there’s a 10-minute bus that drops you off right in the main piazza of Narni, steps away from the bookshop.
That phone is amazing!!!
I’m in love with it. ❤️

Ooh, I love that! Thanks for the idea. Or maybe it could be a place for people to whisper their secrets . . .
Yes, I love this!

It’s a sign from the universe for sure! Long live the society of secondhand telephone tables.

SAME! I hope many people find the idea irresistible and end up with a delightful surprise.
I really think Narni may be on my list for 2026 … if we can get there by train.

I’m so glad! 🚂🚂
Every word in this piece sounds magical. I can’t wait to read about the wardrobe
Thank you! Stay tuned in the future for yet more magic ✨

The Eliot telephone must happen!
